The 8th meeting of the WBRG was held from the 29th of August to the 3rd of September 2011 at the University of Salzburg, Austria. It has been organised by Felix Lang and Wolfgang Wohlmayr of the Department of Classical Studies of the Universität Salzburg and the Österreichisches Forschungszentrum Dürrnberg.
The conference was supported by the Universität Salzburg, the Austrian Ministry for Science and Research, the Land Salzburg, the Stadt Salzburg and Beta Radiocarbon Dating Ltd.

„At the 8th meeting of the Worked Bone Research Group (WBRG) there were 36 registered participants in attendance from 15 countries, including Austria (7), Bulgaria (1), China (2), Estonia (1), France (3), Germany (2), Hungary (4), the Netherlands (1), New Zealand (2), Poland (4), Romania (1), Serbia (1), Spain (3), Switzerland (3) and UK (1).
A total of 25 papers were presented along with 10 posters (7 of which were presented by the authors during the poster session). There were two mid-session breaks, first to the “Cathedral Excavations Museum” and the KeltenMuseum in Hallein, about 30 minutes from Salzburg. There was also a truly wonderful post-conference excursion to the World Heritage site complex of Halstatt to see the Middle Bronze Age Salt Mine excavations.“
