Symposium 2026 Izmir

An online conference entitled

Worked Shells in the ancient world. Material, use, typology, chronology and contexts

has been held on the 20th of May 2026 in Izmir, Turkey.

It was be organised by Ergün Laflı (Izmir, Turkey), Orsolya Láng (Aquincumi Múzeum, Budapest, Hungary), David S. Reese (Peabody Museum of Natural History, Yale University, New Haven, CT, USA) and St. John Simpson (The British Museum, London, UK).

18 papers dealing with worked shell objects were presented during the symposium, which had ca. 50 participants from nine countries. The presentations have been recorded an will be made accessible via YouTube.
